| Bird is a word!
Speaking about semantics. Have you heard about the bird? Everybody knows that bird is a word.
| Goo goo ga ga
Here we are not talking about killing a baby or a little girl. We are talking about killing a newborn's mother. I feel sorry for the little baby who now has no mommy to cling to. Who knows if she even had a daddy. She could end up with other family members, strangers, or in an orphanage. What could be sadder? How can you explain this to a baby who can't even talk?
| terr or not to terr
is killing woman or babies worse than killing oldmen ?
i guess if you wanna stop war just keep everyone a female baby ....

woman kill woman too!!

| To be or not to be ... a terrorist
Yeah, I know the word "terrorist" is controversial. Maybe he was a "psycho", or a "nut", or a "disgruntled employee". Maybe he was just a "wild and crazy guy" out to have a good time. The thing that bothered me was that the reporters allowed this semantic argument to sidetrack them from the point that a mother was killed by a guy in a bulldozer and a tiny baby was pulled from the wreckage who now has no mother. If you saw the film like I did, your heart would break. What will become of this poor little soul? Isn't THAT the story? Who cares what you call the monster who caused this?
| t.error is an error
why not call him a terrorfier?
terrorist is too good a word
or maybe terrorer
terroreer like engineer
would steven king be a terrorist cause he wants to terrorize us?
| Beyond Belief!
I just saw an amazing news report on CNN. Some Palestinian guy decided to go on a rampage in a bulldozer down a busy street in Jerusalem crashing into cars, knocking down busses and killing people! He killed a mother who was in a car with her baby. I believe he killed and wounded others. The showed the baby, now an orphan, taken out of the car while horns blared and sirens groaned.
An Israeli official said the man was a terrorist, but the gist of the news report was not about how sad and horrible this rampage was, but whether or not it was correct to call the man a terrorist! The reporters were saying, "I don't see how this official can know whether or not this man was a terrorist. There has been no investigation to see if he is linked to any terrorist organizations, and we don't know as yet why he did this."
WHY HE DID THIS?!
Are these people insane? Why did he do this? Because he wanted to kill and terrorize people! Is that not enough to make you a terrorist!
"Hmmm... what shall I do today? I know, I'll go on a rampage with a bulldozer and kill and terrorize people. Gee, I just hope they don't call me a terrorist."
As Bob Grant used to say, "It's sick out there and getting sicker!"
I'm not sure if the link above will work, but you can probably find the same article by searching for Beatles and Smithereens on the NY Times site.
It's an interesting story about how The Smithereens (a NJ band that I've liked for a long time) did their own version of the Meet The Beatles album.
It's an idea similar to Bubble with Sgt Pepper, but The Smithereens did some changes.
| Mr. Congressman
TJ, good to hear from you. I don't actually know the band Bubble, but the guy who played keyboards for them called me about doing a concert of the whole Sgt. Pepper album, note for note with the original instruments. I wanted to do it but had another gig. It is a great concept. Even the Beatles never did that album live! So there are a lot of good musicians out there who are willing to do this kind of thing just for the experience to play the music of our childhood heroes just as we heard it on their albums.
Last night I saw another hero of a type. I went to a benefit at the Musician's Union for Congressman John Hall. He was once a long haired rock star who wrote the hit "Dance With Me". After a pledge to the flag and a little speech about taking back our country he performed that tune and a bunch of others with a really great group of musicians.
During the event I spoke with him and we talked about our mutual admiration for Jimi Hendrix. I gave him my CD, Excalibur, that has Purple Haze on it. He said he couldn't wait to hear it. I also gave the CD to a few other folks in the music "biz". My wife and I may do a benefit at our home for him. I'll mention it here. Maybe you would come. All in all it was inspiring to see someone who was a bonafide rock star now serving in the Congress. I hope he can do some good. He said that while the Bush administration is pushing to open up drilling in all of these national lands, the oil companies are sitting on thousands of leases that they already have because the oil is worth more in the ground as an investment. The administration also just killed a bill to increase the use of solar power! This is something he said he was going to fight.
Catching up on some older messages. I checked out the Sgt Pepper stuff by Bubble. A nice job. The vocals are a little weak, but the music is really quite good. I'm totally impressed by the Indian instruments that the used for Within You, Without You. I wonder how difficult is was to find people with the skill to play those instruments.

| The good get killed young...
Among Carlin's points was, "Look who gets killed. It's always people who want everyone to love each other. Jesus, Kennedy, Martin Luther King, John Lennon..."
There was a great documentary on VH1 this week. It was in the segment, Classic Albums. The show was about his first solo album after he left the Beatles. There were interviews with Ringo, Yoko, the engineer, friends of John's, etc.
What I got out of it was a new appreciation for how important Yoko was to John and how she helped him become the man he wanted to be. She is so often viewed as an enemy by Beatle fans but John had already left the group in his mind before she came along. He wanted to grow up and live in a mature family relationship. She gave him a love and acceptance that he never had before. In a way she saved his life. (At least this is the spin from the documentary, but it seemed pretty real.)
It's a shame that he was killed. I think George Carlin may have been on to something.

| A question......
What does the "G" in Kenny G stand for anyway...."God-aweful"?
| Jokes, more goals and drinking.....
Hmmm....that's a good joke, but I'd substitute the complete works of Kenny G for Andrew Loyd Webber. If I was forced to listen to all the albums of that whiny sax player I'd take the gun from my executioner and do the deed myself.
In any case, before I die I would also like to have learned Italian and a bit of gaelic, trvel to Italy, Ireland, England, Spain, france, Australia, Sweden, and the Holy Land (if it's ever safe to do so in my lifetime). i had on my list to drink scotch and I have...got a bottle of "The Glenlivet" 12-year old Single malt for my 25th birthday from my Dad. (He told me he has a scotch-drinking friend who helped him pick it out). It was ok...not something I would drink every weekend...but I prefer rum, or wine, or Irish whiskey. If I have beer it's either Labatt Blue Canadian lager or VT Long trail Blackbeary Wheat.
I also want to swim with dolphins, play percusion and other instruments with a Celtic band, try my hand at stand-up comedy, and meet the
Pope, among other things. Phew!
But you know, if I died tommorrow I think I would be generally satisfied with all that I've accomplished with my 26 years here on this planet. Most but not all of my high school and college classmates are all married now and have more-developed careers than me, but I am satisfied with my life at this moment. God has given me tremendous gifts and I feel I've used them wisely.
| Before I die ...
Interesting ... what people would like to do before they die. There is a joke about that. Two men are called by the chief of the firing squad and informed that it is their day to die. But before they die the chief offers them a last request. The first man says, "I would like to hear the complete works of Andrew Lloyd Webber." The chief says, "Fine, that can be arranged." Then the second man says, "Shoot me first!"
