The Grateful Dead Revival Show

Someone shot some footage of Von Cello playing along with the band at the Grateful Dead Revival Show.

There's a long cello - violin duet at the end of the clip.

Pictures are worth 1,000 words

New pictures in the Pictures section of this site.

These include when I played the Star Spangled Banner at a Yankees game and the Dead Cello concert by Jeffrey Solow at Bargemusic.

By the way, the Von Cello Rules video now has over 6,000 hits.

In other news there will be an interview with me in the Rockland Jewish Reporter, the UJA newspaper for Rockland County. There I talk about my new CD, Celtar, and my new book, Beyond Faith. There should be a link to it on the web soon.

Hitler's Birthday

What a way to celebrate Hitler's birthday - Ahmadinijad makes a hateful anti-Israel speach at the U.N. so called Conference on Racism! How insane is the world? Thankfully a number of countries walked out but sadly many applauded. There is so much misunderstanding about Judaism in the world and the problem seems to go on generation after generation. On my youtube video "Zionism is Good" you can see hateful comments about Israel. There is a guy who just posted from Greenland. Greenland of all places! And he accuses Israel and Jews worldwide of wanting to kill and "torture to death" Palestinians. It's not too different from the blood libels of the Middle Ages where Jews were accused of killing Gentile children and drinking their blood. The hatred is passed from mother to child and father to son. And the saddest part is these people think they are being moral and virtuous defending the poor Palestinians from the evil Jews. They don't even realize that they have been brainwashed with the same hatred that has been around for thousands of years. Between my book and videos I am trying to do something to help educate people but its like sticking your finger in the proverbial dike. Yet at least I try.

Let it roll

It's not that they should spend to keep the economy rolling, it's that they are purposely not spending so they look like they are being sympathetic to those who are struggling, but in the process they are actually hurting the musicians and others who work in the events business. The people I'm talking about have mega millions of dollars so they can spend and spend and it hardly affects them.

As for Obama ... I don't know what to believe. I see in the U.S. that a lot of so called Conservatives and Republicans are screaming about his spending, but they were silent during Bush's spending. It seems suspicious to me. Obama seems to want to smooth out foreign relations. If he does turn against Israel then I will speak out, but remember, Bush was the first U.S. president to call for a Palestinian state. He also supported the faulty elections that empowered Hamas. He also called for dividing Jerusalem. I think the jury is still out on Obama.

Crisis ... and adding to it.

It's always hard to convince people they need to keep spending some of their money - simply to keep the economy "rolling".

Meanwhile, in the White House, things are being decided ...

Having taken military action against Iran off the table, the Obama administration is considering ways of punishing Israel if it attacks Iran to end its nuclear arms program (and prevent a second Holocaust).

In other words, having failed to contain Iran, the United States is concentrating on restraining Israel.

Sign of the Times

Last night I played one of those gigs that I have done annually for a while. It was the annual benefit for the Academy of Rome, one of the most prestigious charity events of the year in New York. In the past few years we had 25 strings plus piano but this year they hired a string quartet. 26 musicians down to 4!

They say that this is happening all over New York, and probably around the country and the world. Due to the economic collapse it is considered a faux pas to have lavish parties of events. But there is a flip side to it. How is it helping the economy to hire 4 musicians instead of 26? What people don't realize is that events are a business that employs a lot of people. You have musicians, florists, caterers, wait staff, planners, and a host of other related businesses. I can understand that it looks bad to throw a lavish party while people are loosing their jobs, but on the other hand, isn't it better for rich people to spend their money to help those who are struggling, rather than horde it until the next boom?

Seder Humor

A group of leading medical researchers have
published data indicating that Seder participants should NOT partake of both chopped liver and charoses, it seems that this combination can lead to Charoses of the Liver.

Go Christians!

I liked this part:

"This isn't the place to dwell on the promises and the prophecies that are being fulfilled in Israel today. However, it is about time that we, the Gentiles, study Israel's situation. Ignorance is no excuse. It truly is written in His word. You can't get away from it, we will have to take a stand and support Israel."

I give a lot of scriptural backup for this in my book:

Watchmen on the Walls of Jerusalem - literally!

Had heard about this already, but till now never visited the website:
Whether you agree or disagree with what these people (christians) do, or what they believe, for sure it is a must read!

Just one snippet of one page:

Israel, take it or leave it

The world doesn't know what to do with Israel. This irritating mini-state in the Middle East won't conform to international standards. Unfortunately, it is not just the world that gets enraged, many believers stare in confusion at the next terrorist attack in Israel. Many can't hide their irritation with regard to Israel. They secretly understand Palestinian terrorists.

Yet, it will become inevitable that one has to make a choice. The choice for Israel. Because Israel is our big brother. That doesn't mean our big brother never makes any mistakes or never takes the wrong decisions. No, as far as that is concerned, they resemble us very much. God calls Israel His firstborn son (Exodus 4:22) and even His dear son (Jeremiah 31:20). However, in Galatians 4 we can read that the Father accepted us as sons too. So now, we are part of it as well. Jews and believers are brothers. You and I belong to Israel. Israel and the Jews are a unity. They can not be separated. They belong together too.

The European Model

That sounds much better. In the U.S. as you probably know many people become doctors, perhaps most of them, because it is one of the few ways to make a lot of money and not have to actually own your own business. You go to school for a few extra years, do a residency and get sleep deprived for a few more years, and then you start to make more money than most middle class people. They are still far from what is really rich. Maybe top surgeons reach multi-millionaire status, but most make about the same as a lawyer. Big deal. But they are so bankrupt morally that they feel they have to show off every penny. So they drive around in Mercedes, BMW's and Jaguars. They buy expensive clothes. They put extra plants in their lawns. They do anything that shows everybody else that they have "money". It's so sad really. First of all if they had "real" money they could be driving Rolls Royce, Bentley, Ferrari, etc. If they had "real" money they wouldn't have a "lawn" with extra plants, but an estate with 20 acres. The only people they impress are the middle and lower middle class people. The really rich know that they are a glorified working class. Their attitude is totally unjustified and only proves that they went into medicine for the wrong reasons. I applaud the European model as you stated it. If we had that kind of system we could get really good people who really want to help others into the medical profession, and let those who are driven by money get out there and open a real business. I wonder how many doctors could actually make it in the real business world.

Doctor Schmoctor

What is it with doctors? I mean there are good ones, but so many seem to have an attitude as thick as their skulls. I had a doctor once insult me saying that he saved lives all day and I am just a musician. A few months later he was found cheating on his wife (even though they have kids) and he is now supporting her in his old house while living with his girlfriend and her kids! Yeah ... saving lives all day!

I spent as much time, if not more, studying music than most of these folks did medicine. I have a lot more credits than a degree from a school! Big deal, you went to school a few more years. The fact of the matter is, most of what they do is stick tongue depressors in peoples mouths, put on their headphones (stethoscopes) and listen to people breath, and hand out drugs! Some save lives, but even surgeons are basically glorified tailors. There is nothing that they do that makes them better than anyone else, and to tell you the truth I always thought that nurses were treated like crap by the medical establishment. They are often the ones on the front line, the ones you really need when you are in distress, the ones who really care. If I were the president I would lobby to raise their salaries and lower the pay for doctors. Why should the practice of medicine be a venue for egotistical jerks to make a "killing" and drive around in Jaguars with snotty attitudes. Believe me, anyone can be a doctor, but none of them can be Von Cello! Yet I don't lord around my talents. I'm too big to act that small.
