Circle Games

And the seasons, they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down.
We're captured on a carosel of time.
We can't return, we can only look behind from where we came,
And go round and round and round in the circle game.
- Joni Mitchel

When I look at children, I always see myself.
When they look at me now, they see someone else.
We go forward, never going back.
We go forward, never going back.
And we go onward, never to return.
- Aaron Minsky

Do be do be do. Be do be do be.
- Frank Sinatra

Steve, you missed a good night. Last night I went to the Bar Mitzvah of Stuie's son. At the party was Stu Troyetsky, Stu Fish, Howie Kaplan, Roni Koppels, Neil Korman, and several other friends from Canarsie.

Do you remember how weird it was on that first moment when we saw each other after so many years when I picked you up in Coney Island? Imagine that times ten! It is weird how we humans go around this merry go round and watch each other get older and more funny looking!

Hey Edward, thanks for chimming in! I don't know if the magazine is this way or if the story they printed is an exception. You would think that editors would know better, but a lot of people buy into the notion that Hamas or Hezbollah are somehow "legitimate". You know what happens...these groups, who have as their goal the destruction of Israel (and even the genocide of the Jews) are clever. They provide services to the community. They give charity, they have free meals, they provide counciling, etc. so that they look like political parties or government agencies. Then people who are looking for a way to legitimize these groups say things like, "Well you know Hezbollah is not a terrorist organization. They provide services to a devestated community", etc. And they ignore why these groups really exist and what their ultimate goal is. Heck, even the Nazis provided community services!

So, it is not always that people are being evil when they publish pro Arab terror group articles...but they are at the very least naive or misguided. In this case, I was glad I got the chance to expose the evil in the article, and I'm glad that at least the paper published it. I hope they heard it too!

Now as for the Mormons...let's not bring Mit Romney into this!

I also wanted to mention - this magazine is "pretending" to be Catholic just like the Mormons who came to my door were, or just like that religious hot dog lady I once told you about. Now I'm not saying that Mormonism or anything that falls under the Protestant spectrum shouldn't be considered an actual faith, but Mormons just seem to me to be "lite Catholics"...

Yes,'s Catholiscsm lite! Now with less fat, sugar, gluten-and-tannin (bread and wine) free. Part of a balanced, fundamental, theological breakfast!

My extremely humble apologies to any and all Mormons out there on this guestbook.

Catholic? Or No Catholic? (Open and shut the case, Amen)

Well, this looks like another Christian science newspaper pretending to be Catholic...what I mean by "pretending" is, that being Catholic, to me, is following and emulating Jesus' message of universal love (aside from all that Jesus-being-one-with-us-in-the body and blood-stuff). By downplaying not only the kind work of John Paul II (a man who almost seemed like Christ-like), but Hezbollah's grave, harsh, un-loving ideologies, this magazine is definately not "Catholic". I'm with you on this one, Aaron.

Jews and Catholics Unite!

Hey, how cool is this? The National Catholic Reporter published a letter I wrote to the editor about Jewish Catholic unity.

Le Herbie!

If you do a google search on "Herbie's Pizza Party", the third link that comes up is from a French site. However, you have to go to the cached copy in order to see the link to Herbie. I posted the link to the cached copy, but I guess it was too long or something, so it doesn't work from here. But it works from google.

It just struck me as cool that a video about a mythical kid from Canarsie having a pizza party is being circulated in the French speaking world!

9/11 Again!

This is the NEW link to the video of my 9/11 tribute in Harrisburg. For some reason the You Tube site would not let me edit it, so I had to remove it and put it back. In the meantime, I changed the name of the video. For some reason my other videos of the Star Spangled Banner were getting more hits. I figured it was because this one did not have the name in the title. So now I renamed it. It will be interesting to see if it gets more hits now.

By the seems like people have finally moved on from 9/11. You never hear about it anymore...except on the anniversary.

It's a hit!

This may be the last video upload for a while. It is of my pre Von Cello band, Smooth Groove and our hit song (well, it should have been a hit!), "Show Me The Way"!

Hit me!

The first video I put up on Youtube has already had 42 views! That may not be much, but it's only been 5 days. And I haven't done anything to publicize it yet. This could be big!

That's why God invented Mexicans!

Just kidding! But, seriously, there is always the option to hire others to do that kind of work. And then again, some people live for that stuff.

In Canarsie we shared our two family home with my grandparents. My grandfather was a mechanic by trade and a handyman by passion. Some of my best memories are of helping him work around the house. As for gardening, we did it ourselves and had one of the nicest gardens in the neighborhood. He built a Japanese bridge which he installed over a "stream" of white rocks surrounded by tiny flowers of many types. He also did things like install garbage can holders under the ground so that you didn't have to look at garbage cans in front of our house. He put moldings above the garage doors in the back. He built a floor to ceiling bookcase, etc.

So, I can't blame you for not liking home chores, but I like doing them, or at least overseeing others doing them. Maybe that's why I became a building manager when I lived in the city. Being around construction work, and contractors, brings back memories of hanging around with Pops.

By the way, I wrote a song about him after he died. It's somewhere in the audio clips on this site. The song is called, "Thank You For the Roses". It's about being thankful for the things he taught me. I say "roses" because he planted a rose bush in our backyard that brought me years of pleasure, and showed me how hard work can yield beauty!

The privacy and freedom that come with owning a home are great. But, shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, painting the exterior, fixing the plumbing, etc. that come with owning a home stinks. Life is full of trade offs.
