Perfection Unseen - or - Hindsight is 20/20

Just the other night a hometown football game
My wife nd I ran into my old high school flame
And as I introduced them the past came back to me
And I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be

She was the one that I'd wanted for all times
And each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mine And if he'd only grant me this wish I wished back then I'd never ask for anything again

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

She wasn't quite the angel that I remembered in my dreams
And I could tell that time had changed me
In her eyes too it seemed
We tried to talk about the old days
There wasn't much we could recall
I guess the Lord knows what he's doin' after all

And as she walked away and I looked at my wife
And then and there I thanked the good Lord
For the gifts in my life

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he may not answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

Some of God's greatest gifts are all too often unanswered...
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

The Brothers Karamazoff

I think Dostoevsky was the one who said that he would not want to live in a paradise if you couldn't stick out your tongue at things. Maybe it was Huxley. I think part of living a reasonably long life is that you start to realize that there is never a perfect peace, nor will there be without some kind of cosmic intervention. I think the human mind seeks to create perfection when perfection already exists all around us but we just don't see it.

Or maybe not...

i'm dreaming of a white....

I saw those guys in white when I saw Sri with Carlos many years ago. It was so peaceful and heavenly, that it was almost absurd. Just like in the von cello tradition, someone yelled out "Carlos!" in the midst of all the bliss. All is bliss. All is bliss. All is a detergent.

Holy S&^%

Hey, I'd love to see or hear that routine. I once went to see John McGlaughlin and Carlos Santana when they were both very steeped in following him. There were all these guys dressed in white jump suits with crew cuts doing security. It was a very uptight militaristic environment. McGlaughlin told the crowd he was not going to begin until there was a moment of silence. It took quite a while to get the crowd, who came to party and have a good time, to quiet down. Finally there was a brief pause of silence and I watched McGlaughlin's hand. Just as his pick was about to hit the string, when there was no going back, I screamed out "JERRY!"

go to the dean

You know, i've never seen ira and sri in the same room at the same time. (and i did pronounce his name "chimnoy". i'm sure i did.) in fact, i did a comedy routine called the "great holy one in a million" based on the day i met sri a long time ago.

Your bad is good

But did you always pronounce it Chinmoy? I always thought it was Chimnoy. I guess a last name that begins with chin seemed weird so my mind thought it was Chimnoy. Then again, maybe that's how I heard someone else say it. Either way having a character like Sri introduced to my life at the tender age of 13 or 14 was kind of odd. Not that I have anything against him, but I never met anyone like him in Canarsie. Maybe Ira Kluger...

my bad. (spelling counts)

You're right. It is Chinmoy. Not sure why I did that. Well, dyslexics of the world... untie! A dyslexic walks into a ... bra ...

To Chimnoy or to Chinmoy - that is the question.

I see you spelled his name Chimnoy. I always pronounced it that way but it seems that the real spelling is Chinmoy. I wonder if the mispronunciation was a Canarsie thing or if people widely mispronounced his name.

Aaron Minsky and Sri Chinmoy

Remember Sri Chinmoy? He was the guru to many rock stars including John McGlaughlin. Somehow Von Cello ended up on a tribute page to the spiritual leader.
