VON CELLO HANDLES CASE AT NYU LAW SCHOOL

so i guess when you entered with your cello and asked them to handle your case ,they thought you meant a legal problem, but you simply meant to please take your cello case.

The Kennedy's are such a tragedy. It would have been a very different country if John and Bobby were still alive. There was even hope when John John was alive that he would rise to the occasion one day. I wouldn't count them out down the line, but for now I don't see a President Kennedy.

I read an interesting theory about why the Kennedy's never came forward with information on Jack's assassination. The theory is that Bobby was involved in trying to have Castro killed, and they squelched the investigation to prevent that from coming forward, as that would have hurt his presidential chances, and then later would have hurt his reputation. The theory is that the CIA killed Bobby because the Kennedy's were trying to limit its power. One of the founders of the CIA was Prescott Bush, the grandfather of the president. Interesting...isn't it?

As for me, I have been gigging almost every night. We played the NYU graduation down at Washington Square park. Years ago I used to play for quarters with Perry down there. Now I got to play inside the law school for hundreds of dollars. That made me feel good in a way.

I was kidding around, making the point that American presidential politics seems to have come down to a battle between two families.

So, I played the Rosenthal funeral today. Among the speakers was Mayor Blumberg, Barbara Walters, Beverly Sills, and Elie Weisel.

Jeb can't win until Hillary wins. Then after her, he will be president. And by the time he is through, Chelsea will be old enough to run. Anyway, his brother is entering Nixonian status for how low in the polls he is, so I don't think the people are ready to extend the Bush dynasty at this time.

Did you hear that the publisher of the New York Times died? I will be playing at Abe Rosenthal's funeral.

That's Natalia Timofeyeva.

Tonight I'll be playing in a flute trio for New York Presbyterian Hospital. Combination of classical and light jazz. Should be fun.

That's Marquis Classics. I got a copy of the CD and was impressed with the way the cellist, Natasha Timofeyeva, played my Judaic Concert Suite. She took certain liberties with the notes, but she came up with a very original take on the piece and played with great emotion. It is an enjoyable CD overall, for those who are interested in Jewish music.

One of the things that gives me a thrill is hearing other people play my music. It always amazes me how they find something in the music that I didn't see. I suppose it's like giving birth to a child. You train it to be a certain way, yet it will leave the nest and do things that will surprise you.

It's true, there are hundreds of links to Von Cello, and also to Aaron Minsky. But for some reason the way you posted your links, they don't lead you to an existing page, but my link below does.

By the way, that link is one of the newest. It takes you to Marquis Claissics which just released a CD of Jewish music that includes my Judaic Concert Suite.

Steve, thanks for posting the links, but when you click on them none of the sites come up. For some reason, the url begins with vonccllo.com/guest and then the url for your link. Since there are no pages on the internet with that url, the pages don't come up. I wonder why that happens? I'll post a link and we'll see if it works.

So I did end up playing with some rock stars the other night. The Recording Academy, NARAS, otherwise known as the Grammys, had a jam night at the Cutting Room. There were rock stars from Frampton and Bowie's bands, and others like Will Lee from the David Letterman band. And musicians could sign up to jam.

The guy who was running it kept trying to not let me play. He said, "We are not set up for exotic instruments". I finally had to kind of force my way up on the stage. The tune "Midnight Hour" was called and I decided to put the cello strap over my shoulder and play Celtar style. At one point the gave me a solo, and two of the rock star guitar players came running over to the edge of the stage to check me out.

When it was over, several of the rock stars came over to talk to me. I was able to give out CDs to a few of them. One never knows where things can lead, but at least now several bonafide rock stars got to hear me play, and a few were up on the stage playing with me, and I think they were all surprised to see that a cello can fit right in with a professional rock group.

No, the spammers I do not miss. But I miss the way you never knew who was going to show up. Although I guess anyone can still show up and post, as long as they don't mind registering.

But, remember that long conversation/argument we had about Judaism a few months back? I don't know if this format is conducive to that.

Guess the lack of response proved my point.

Tonight I'll be jamming with members of the bands of David Bowie, Peter Frampton, and others. More later...

Yes, I remember that review. I wonder what he would think of Excalibur.

By the way, doesn't this new guestbook format have its pluses and minuses? The really good thing is that we got rid of the spammers. I guess they don't want me to have their email addresses. But the bad news is that it feels a bit like a cacoon. I mean, anyone can still post, but due to the sign up procedure, it seems like its just the few of us. There's also something about the format that makes even us post less often. Maybe its because the last comment is at the top instead of the bottom where it was a bit more hidden. It felt before like you were creating a monthly book. Now each post kind of stands on its own, and you are less likely to read what came before. Making it more of a comment board, rather than a conversation.

Damn spammers!

I heard that David Johnstone performed my Judaic Concert Suite again in Spain. It was at the end of a day long celebration of Cervantes. I understand it was mentioned on Radio Pamplona and Spanish National Radio...which I assume is called Radio Nacional Espana.

Yeah, Napoleon is quite a character.

My attorney was supposed to meet me on the boat to introduce me to the Tricksters. He couldn't make it, but I met some of them anyway. He's trying to get people in the jam scene to know about me, thinking that somehow or other an opportunity will arise if enough people know I'm out there.

It is interesting that the jam thing has grown into a "scene". Maybe people are tired of hearing raps and watching young girls who can barely sing, dance around. Or, at least, maybe people are ready to actually watch musicians play instruments and be creative once in a while.

It also seems that when Jerry died, it was as if a whole bunch of seeds were let loose, and little jam scenes started popping up all over the place. Somehow people had to make up for his loss, but it happened in many little ways, rather than one big way. It opened up some opportunities, but it's still a guitar dominated genre. I'm sure people would groove to the cello...if I can only get the chance. The hardest thing is opening the door. If I can only find that key, I'm sure things will be cool inside.
