VON REYNOLDS

The show was great. We ended up with my drummers Roy Weinberger and Nadav Snir on hand held percussion and myself on "celtar". We also had my wife Karen, and Cleo...the CEO of Orange Dawg Productions. The show took a middle eastern bent, since Nadav is from Israel, and we played Spy Vs. Spy with a middle eastern groove.

I alone sat in with some other guests in the previous segment. Among the guests was...get this...The Amazing Kreskin!

No Soap Radio

You can't Tivo the radio!

But don't worry, I'll get a copy and put it up on the site.

It will be cool. We'll have some Von Cello band members, and there's even a chance my music attorney will show up.

Sting Wants Moshiah Now!

I was listening to Israel National Radio today and heard that Sting did a concert in Israel with Matisyahu, the Chassidic Rapper. They said that Sting got so caught up in the religious zeal of the crowd that he shouted out three times, "We want moshiach (messiah) now!"

VON CELLO VIDEO

Hey thanks for posting that link. I had no idea that Von Cello videos were on Yahoo. I also found out that there are some Von Cello audio clips on the Windows Media Player. You go to the search and put in Von Cello.

The Relay for Life concert worked out great. We had a good time, some people joined the email list, and most important, close to $250 thousand dollars were raised for the American Cancer Society.

It is tomorrow! Von Cello will be playing for Relay for Life, an athletic festival to support cancer research. It will be on June 10th at 1:00 P.M. at Clarkstown High School North in New City, NY

We have had a few rehearsals and it's looking good. Both Eric and John will be backing me up on vocals. It will be our first time playing with Eric, but I'm sure he will rise to the occasion.

I heard from a keyboardist from Vince Welnick's band. Vince is the forth Grateful Dead keyboardist to pass away. I was sorry to hear about it. But I'm sure this keyboardist will pass on his legacy as best he can. He said he would like to play with Von Cello, so we are going to see if we can get him on a future gig.

Should be a good Von Cello gig this Saturday. Our drummer, John Diguilio, just got back from a short tour with Alan Jackson, the country star. Our bassist, Eric Mauriello, has played with oldies bands, like the Marvelettes, the Coasters, etc. See below for details.

So, I played that wedding and it was a black Jamacian woman marrying a Jewish guy. The rabbi was his uncle. It turns out that this rabbi was very invovled with the civil rights movement, and had even gone to jail in the south with Martin Luther King! Now his nephew is marrying a black woman. I'm sure he was proud, and even a little envious...she was a stunner!

Steve, I think you posted his email address a while back. And I think I said then what I will say now, that you should not post someone's email address on a public forum. That said, I just sent him an email. I remember when he was a toll collector on the Marine Park Bridge!

Speaking about Long Island, I was just there today playing for a Bas Mitzvah of a grown woman at the East Norwich Country Club. Tomorrow I'm playing for a wedding of a black woman from the islands with a Jew.

I don't know anything about it. I have been so busy lately, it's ridiculous. Just in the last three weeks here are my gigs:
Classical Orchestra and Chorus in Westchester
Trio for NY Presbyterian Hospital benefit
Radio City Music Hall, graduation for Fine Arts College
NYU graduation in Greenwich Village
Martha Stewart event at Anne Taylor in Manhattan
Abe Rosenthan funeral, editor of NY Times, at Central Synagogue
Retirement for Mr. Volpe, head of Metropolitan Opera, at Lincoln Center
Wedding in Long Island at Sans Souci, Glen Cove

On other nights I was meeting the New Riders, and jamming with rock stars at a NARAS event. And on other nights I was playing in, or conducting school concerts. Right now I am totally burned out and trying to dig out of a mountain of paper work that has built up while I've been running around. Help!

Hi Howard. Of course I remember you. We had some great virtual conversations a few years ago. You mention how we kids used to get together to play music back in the day. Looking back, I don't think we realized how original and self motivated we were. I have been teaching on and off in schools for several years, and I rarely see groups of kids getting together to form bands and getting out to play. I think if we all had more confidence back then, we might have been able to have formed a band that could have gotten signed. I mean, if Bon Jovi did it, and Van Halen did it, and Guns and Roses did it, we could have done it too. The main difference, I think, was that they had more money, and more attitude.

Von Cello Meets Dave Nelson

Hey man, I got to see the new New Riders last night. It was great! They played all of their old hits...Panama Red, Last Lonely Eagle, Garden of Eden, Hand Jive, Henry, on and on. They also did a few covers like Friend of the Devil and We All Need Someone To Lean On. Oh yeah, and surprisingly they did, Take A Letter Maria. Remember that one?

Then best of all, I got to go back stage to meet the band. I met Buddy Cage and the other guys. One told me that he has Von Cello on his Ipod! But the most amazing thing was how I hit it of with Dave Nelson. We must have talked for a half hour, as he told me stories about the early days of the Riders and some of his interactions with Jerry Garcia.

It was great to make an aquaintance with a living legend. And who knows...maybe one day we'll do some playing together.
