Human

I am not biased, I'm human. Even if I may show more concern, or interest, in people like me, that does not mean I am biased against other people.

If I supported the Jews over the Nazis, would you say I was biased against them?

What's the point?

We are getting off track. My point was that groups like "United for Peace and Justice" have a double standard. If Israel attacks Palestinians they send out emails and have demonstrations against Israeli "atrocities", etc. But now, as Lebanon has been attacking Palestinians in a refugee camp, they have been silent. To me, this says that they are not really concerned about "peace and justice", rather they are biased and unfair.

Your response has been to accuse me of doing something wrong by bringing this up because I am a Jew helping other Jews. So, what do you think I should do?

Jew Shmew

Anti-Semites hate Jews no matter what they do. If a Jew saves another Jew, they say, "They only care about their own". If a Jew doesn't save a Jew, they say, "You see, they don't even save each other, so you can't trust them". There is no way to convince a hater to love you.

But, of course, I would not hire a Jew before a non-Jew, or save a Jewish stranger over a non-Jewish friend. I am talking about generalities. If Israel gets bombed it affects me more than if Madagascar gets bombed. It would be nice if everyone in the world was affected the exact same way no matter who a tragedy befalls, but, in reality most people are affected the most if it is a loved one, then if it is in their extended family, then if it is in their own country, and then if it is someone of their religion or background.

You seem to want to change the world into a utopia, but so far, no one has been able to do that. In fact, the people who claim to be bringing the world to utopia, usually turn out to be the ones who bring mass death and destruction. So I say, "Live and let live".

I'd like to teach the world to sing...

Intermarriiage is generally a good thing. Sure...if your mother is Christian and your father is Jewish it is going to be harder for you to strike out against either of these groups. (Unless you hate one of your parents, in which case you may hate their people too.) But what happens after intermarriage? If all the Jews married Christians, and all the Christians married Muslims, and all of them married Hindus, and all of them married Atheists...then people would just break into other groups!

If it's not religion dividing people, it would be country, if not that then skin color, if not that then eye color, if not that then hieght, if not that then I.Q. It is human nature to seek alliances with groups that are smaller than the whole human race, so there will always be divisions.

My mother taught me that people should not hate each other because they are different. What we have to do is learn to live with our differences, not try to make everyone the same.

Therefore, getting back to our original point, there is nothing wrong with a Jew caring more about the Jews, or a Muslim caring more about the Muslims. However, even if I wasn't a Jew, I would still side with the Jews because all they want is to be able to live in Israel in peace. Whereas the Muslims want to either kill all the Jews or force them out of their country. They are the ones who are not practicing the dictum: "Live and let live". So I stand up for the Jews.

If the Muslims decided to live in peace with the Jews of Israel, then things would be different. Of course, I hope and pray that that day will come.

I would if I could but I can't so I won't

You say you "would make a stranger my brother or my son". But you are not answering the question.

The question is, if you could only save ONE, who would you save?

I "would" like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony. But that is not the question!

What it shows is that there are certain people, and organizations, that basically have an agenda to constantly attack Israel. Yet they act as though they are actually concerned about "human rights", "justice and peace", or whatever catch phrase they can come up with that sounds good. But the reality is that if they were really concerned about these things, they would not only criticize Israel.

The latest incident in Lebanon proves that they are not really concerned about the lives of Palestinians. If they were, they would be protesting against Lebanon. But, in fact, if you go to that website, you will see that not one word is said about it. Yet, even with this going on right now, they have an article calling for the end of what they call "Israeli Occuption". This proves that their true agenda is to attack Israel, NOT to protect the Palestinians. That is why they are anti-Semites. They only act like they care about Palestinians because they can use it to hurt Israel.

As for me, I do care when non-Jews are killed. But, like most people, I am most concerned when people like me are attacked. That is human nature. If a house was on fire and you could save your son or a stranger, who would you save?

Just the facts...

A few things you said are not correct. First of all, it is not "rich" Jews who spread the idea to other Jews that Jews are hated. When we grew up in Canarsie we were anything but rich, and I knew that Jews were hated. All you had to do was learn about W.W. II to know that. Then if you studied a little bit more you found out about the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Pogroms, the Blood Libels, and the Expulsions. Today we see Nazi propaganda very popular in Arab countries, and we see many Western countries siding with Nazi-like forces among the Arabs, like Hamas and Hezbollah. So, again, the idea that some "rich Jews" are brainwashing the other Jews is not true.

I think you are missing my point in my last post. What I am referring to is that there is a history of certain groups demonizing the Jews when they fight back against the Palestinians or others. For instance, during the war last summer, a group called United for Peace and Justice started sending out email alerts and calling for demonstrations to stop Israel. They accused Israel of war crimes and murder. My point is this: where is this group now, when Palestinians are being killed by non Jews?

Go to their website:
http://www.unitedforpeace.org/

You will see right on the front an article against "israeli Occupation", but not one word about the Lebanese army killing Palestinians RIGHT NOW!

That is what I am talking about.

i could have had a v8

if the pal estinians were dying from a virus it wouldnt make news Its all about israel not the plo.. in spain they talk about nobody killing nobody..I dont know where you get the idea the jews are hated or on the unfair end of opinion..I think we get a fair deal and that nobody not even israel is right everytime.I think rich american jews took control of the jewish thought mindset and have made jews think WE ARE HATED ..we are not hated ....most folk dont have time to even think about it as jew catholic or white black.. Maybe its aliya propagabda to get you to move to israel. Jews live work like all others and we love hate others as well.Antisemitism is like antieverythingelse...it exists as does antigay or antichurch. When israel shoots its seen here sometimes as proper defense and sometimes as wrong. How its seen in the usa depends on your paper. But i don understand why some jews need a mission so lets get them to hate us again so we can play somemore cause Im bored

Palestinians are dying!!!!!!!

Isn't it interesting that Palestinians are being killed by Lebanese soldiers yet there is no outcry from those who claim to be so concerned about "the poor Palestinians". Rather, the story is being treated as just another news item. Why?

Could it be that when non-Jews kill Palestinians people don't care all that much?

Where is Chomsky? Where is Carter? Where is "United for Peace and Justice"? Where is the next "Rachel Corey", or the next group of European or American "progressives" protesting against these "atrocities"?

This episode reinforces what many of us already know....that those who loudly protest and criticize Israel whenever it tries to defend itself, do so not because they really care about the Palestinians. As Rabbi Singer (of Israel National Radio) put it, "If a Jew is a banker, or a lawyer, and he keeps his head down and does his job, that they tolerate. But God forbid a Jew should pick up a gun?! A Jew should defend himself?! This they can't stand!"

I will be watching with much interest to see how the world reacts to the killing of Palestinians at the hands of the Lebanese. And I, for one, will not forget this the next time Israel is forced to fight back against the constant stream of Palestinian violence. I say "constant" because 4,500 rockets have been fired from Gaza into Israel since 2001! Meanwhile, we Americans have enjoyed our lives free of terrorist acts since 2001.

Could you imagine our reaction if we had 4,500 rockets falling on New York City since 9/11?

Could you imagine our reaction if even one fell on us?

On May 20th alone, twenty bombs fell on Sderot in Israel! Over 100 in recent days! People are scared to death!

The double standard, and the reasons for it, are not lost on me, and I hope not on you..

P.S. You can hear the actual sound of Palestinian bombs falling on a Jewish neighborhood, here:
http://www.israelnationalradio.com/
Listen to the program called, "Take Gaza!". You will hear the bombs in the 2nd part of the program. If you hear anger in the voice of the Israeli host, can you blame her?

You say you want a revolution...

Hey Steve, I was just watching a show on the History Channel called, "The History of Sex". They said that for the first 600 years the church allowed priests to marry. When the church decided that priests must be celibate, there were riots from the priests and their wives. The celibacy led to homosexuality between priests. And that was part of what led Martin Luther to start the Protestant Reformation. Protestants rejected the idea of celibacy. I didn't realize that sex had so much to do with the birth of a new Christianity.

They also said that when the Spanish came to the Americas, one of the main ways they justified conquering and killing the Native Americans was because the natives practiced "sodomy" The Catholic Spaniards felt they had the right to destroy other cultures that had other ideas about sexuality. So, once again, sex was at the core of a revolution!

Come to think about it...it was also at the core of the 1960's revolution too!

The times they are a changin'

Is it just me, or is the whole Hip Hop thing getting played out? It's been about 30 years of this already. Rock n' Roll only lasted about 10 years. The Classic Rock era was about 10 years. Disco was probably less, and those other waves, like New Wave and Punk seemed to come and go in less than a decade. Metal seems to survive on some level under or over ground, but that doesn't mean it is much of a money maker. Country gallops on and on, usually at a less than prime time pace. But Hip Hop has had quite a large presence for a very long time.

I'm noticing some more attention being paid to bands with Blues or Americana roots. I'm hearing some real songs with real lyrics. That is not to say that Hip Hop does not have that, but it seems that there is less rapping going on. After 30 years what more is there to say? We have been "keeping it real" for so long that "real" is totally fake!

As Zappa once said, "I may be totally wrong" but there seems to be some changes coming down the pike.

Von Yankee

Hey, I did the audition for the Staten Island Yankees. I don't know if I will get picked, but I do know that I was picked to be in the Staten Island Advance, the newspaper of record for the island. Here is the top of the article:

100 audition to sing for S.I. Yankees
Sunday, May 20, 2007
By SALLY GOLDENBERG
STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The jury's out on which stardom-hungry crooner will serenade the crowd at the Staten Island Yankees' opening game this season.

Within the next few days, one of the roughly 100 vocalists who tried out for the gig in a public audition inside the Staten Island Mall yesterday will get the call-back, indicating he or she is on the roster for the minor league team's schedule to sing either "God Bless America" or the "National Anthem" at games throughout the season. Another 45 or so singers will be selected to perform at subsequent games.

"There's been incredible talent. We've gotten people from all walks of life," Mike d'Amboise, director of entertainment for the Staten Island Yankees, said as he recalled a man performing the anthem on an electric cello -- arguably one of the more unique productions on the makeshift stage.

As the cellist -- Aaron Minsky of Westchester -- played, a shopper passing by the audition area on the lower level outside JCPenny snickered, "Where's Simon?", alluding to the notoriously nasty judge on the hit television show "American Idol," which features wannabe stars performing before a national audience.

But d'Amboise said yesterday's casting call struck a more serious note.

"We haven't gotten too many people who are joking around," he said, noting the patriotic songs do not lend themselves to the sort of spoofs featured on "American Idol."
----------------------------------

I heard there was also a picture in the paper of me along with Karen and Cleopatra Von Weasel watching me play. Hopefully the Yankees will take note and realize the publicity that this would generate!

"We love the Yankees. Shout it outloud. We love the Yankees..."

Concubines baby!

Well...what the people actually do is one thing, and what the religion says is another. I was just pointing out the different approach of the two religions to sex. What people choose to do is another story.

I read a book about Orthodox Jewish traditions about sex and I was surprised to see how much more liberal early Jewish practice was. For instance, as we know some of the men in the Bible had several wives and even a combination of wives and concubines. This was Jewish practice until the diaspora. Under the threat of Christian violence, rabbis banned these practices, NOT because they thought they were wrong or immoral, but because Christians used them to accuse Jews of being immoral and liable to penalties. The same is true about having sex out of marriage. In early Judaism a man was allowed to have sex with a prostitute (the Bible calls them harlots) during the time his wife was having her period, and was therefore off limits to the man. This too was banned in reaction to objections and threats from the Christian world.

I was very surprised to learn about this. We are so inundated with Christian culture that most people, lncluding Jews, do not know about the differences in Jewish and Christian approaches to sex. Generally Judaism takes a very realistic and mature approach, understanding that people need sex, and accomodating this need, while at the same time trying to keep it within certain boundaries for the health of society.

Kids

Be fruitful means to TRY to have kids. I certainly tried. But when you start talking about using science, or adoption agencies, then you are into another subject.

The point I have been making is that Judaism does not condone or glorify celibacy. There is no Virgin Mary in Judaism. We do not glofify virgins. Judaism commands that people get married and try to have children. By the way, even as great an Orthodox Jew as the Lubavitcher Rebbe did not have kids...but he tried!

Christianity, with its Virgin Mary, its nuns, and priests, clearly promotes celibacy and, in fact, says that it is superior to marriage. Do you remember how upset Maria was in The Sound of Music when she was thinking about breaking her vows? She "failed" to be a nun and then went off to be married. Judaism does not call that a "faliure" but a "success"! Beiing a nun is a failure. Actually, setting up a system that has nuns and celibate priests is a failure, according to Judaism.

There is a different emphasis. Who knows, maybe the Christians are right and it is actually good to be celibate. All I am saying is that Judaism, as a religion, rejects celebacy. So, if I were you, I'd be happy to be from a pro sex tradition!
