o stand up for the Jews if he believes that they are the real problem in the world.
you mean against?
the stereoyupe about banker isnt bad actually. By law for centuries jews were prohibited from owning land, thus they held their money and or bought other valuables like diamonds art etc. So infact for centuries due to not having alternatives we had to sit on our money but not outa desire but due 2 their limiting us.
as for controlling the world ...
| Welcome Back!
Hey LN, welcome back!
Canarsie, when you were young you might not have known much about Hipanics, but you didn't think they controlled the banks, or the U.S. congress, or that they were killers, or money hungry. These are the kind of things that people hear about the Jews. All of these things relate to power. People are taught that the Jews have the real power in the world. They are taught that they are money hungry power seekers who kill Arabs and anyone else who stands in the way of their greed. This is almost exclusively taught about Jews. So when people have these ideas, they are not normal prejudice ideas. Normal prejudice is like such and such a group is lazy, or stupid, or weird. But when the prejudice is tied in with money and power, that is anti-Semitism.
Very few people go to white power meetings. Very few people march with the neo Nazis. I am actually not threatened by the weirdo fringe. It is the everyday person who believes all these lies who is the real threat, because he will not take the appropriate action to stand up for the Jews if he believes that they are the real problem in the world.
there are those who on saturday night instead of hittin the mall, go to the weekly white power meeting. They are antisemites. Others harbour ideas but wen they meet me they change .
wen young i was ignorant about hispanics but never antihispanic.I married one later in life.
while the antisemite will hurt you the ignorant person i think wouldnt. i never would have hurt an hispanic wen i was young.
Back and missed some interesting stuff, I see. (Was on dial up for a week, then off line for 2 weeks - but immerged (immersed?) in music). I will never catch up this way, but I will try!
Just read the current page, and, Canarsie, you totally surprised me! But I couldnot agree more. And I couldnot have summed it up better, either. It is soooo hard to rid people forever of false beliefs about Jews and misinterpretations of Israeli actions and outright lies about Israel's history. That's why I said somewhere: our war is one of words. Fight to make the truth known. I donot know why lies fall in such fertile soil, maybe that's how Aaron says - often, antisemitism is spoonfed from early age on.
This is an interesting subject. What is anti-Semitism. Here you tell me that you know people who think the Jews control the banks, have a lobby that controls America, kill Arabs, are crooks, and only care about money... yet they are not anti-Semitic! So what do you have to do to be anti-Semitic? Kill Jews? Wear a sign on your head that says, "I am an anti-Semite"?
You may be right, that it's just ignorance, but where is that ignorance coming from? Where did they hear that Jews control the banks, or that the Israeli lobby is all powerful, or that Jews are crooks and only care about money? Someone told them these things. Was it their parents, their teachers, their preachers? Certainly these are anti-Semitic notions. So while you may be able to excuse the individual as ignorant (although it is hard to be so ignorant in today's world) the fact that they even have these ideas in their heads shows that they are products of anti-Semitism.
Will we ever see the day when the word Jew will bring to mind a people that is moral, upright, socially conscious, concerned about the world, seeking peace and love and a bright future for all humanity?
its not antisemitism here but more an ignorance of jews israel
i mean every1 knows im a heb but they donno about israel or our history.
i still think theres less antijew here than in albany ny

I must say... I'm impressed! I never heard you admit to anti Jewish attitudes in Spain, and I never heard the way you defend the Jews. I like your answers!
I was raised to avoid having religious conflicts with people. I was taught to basically say something nice to someone who makes a negative remark about the Jews or Israel just to keep the peace. But now I disagree with that attitude. I think you get more respect from people when you stand up for yourself, and when you give them back what they are giving you. If that makes them run, then you know they were not true friends to begin with. If they stay and fight, then you know you have a friend!
(I don't mean "fight" in an obnoxious way. I mean someone who cares enough about you to wrestle with you until you both understand and respect each other.)
in murcia many caths like talkin about faith.
many dont like it when
they say jews control banks and i say cathlics control 26 countris all over the world land food producyion
they say jews have a lobby in wash and i say the church is realy an even bigger lobby than aipac and worse

they say we only think of money and ask them about what they do wen im swimming running playing tennis or 2 months in usa and thay say they are working
they tell me jews crooks cheaters and ask them whos in the spanish jails and they tell me spanish crooks.
every jew must be taught young how to articulately answer theses Qs. the answer must be quik on the money and devestate the other. no jew should be humiliated or lose the argument in a bar or dorm not cause jews are bad but cause the answer wasnt well said.
parents need to think the Qs the As and the posbility that even a good answer will be rejected...in that case don say thats your opinion but say your opinion is in need of updating or i think i can help you with your misunderstanding ...dont let them walk away thinkn theyv won NEVER

It's true though...
I once had an aquaintance who was constantly trying to convert me to Christianity. I would see her on music gigs, and somehow or other she would find a way to say something like, "I just don't get it. What do you guys have against Jesus? He died for you too, you know." Or she would say, "Why are the Jews so stubborn? Jesus said we should approach him like children and just accept his love like a child loves its mother." I would try to be nice to her and say things back like, "Well, you know, its hard to change someone's beliefs." But she would persist and I would always start to feel like an animal trapped in a corner because I did not want to have to fight with her, since we were in a professional situation, yet I did not appreciate her aggressive pushing of her beliefs on me.
Finally one day when she was going on and on and questioning my every answer, I pushed back and said, "Why don't you become a Jew?" She looked absolutely shocked! She said that Jesus died for us all so it makes no sense for her to become a Jew. So I said, "How do you know he died for you? How do you know he ever existed?" She said she has faith. So I said, "So what? Some people believe in Allah. Some people believe in Zeus. Is it your idea that people should just have faith in anything and then that is okay?" So she said, "No, you have to have faith in the truth." So I said, "How do you know what you believe is the truth?" She said, "I just know it." Then I said, "Oh yeah? Well I just know Judaism is the truth, so I think you should become a Jew!" By this point she was getting nervous and she said, "I think we should end this conversation", and she started to walk away.
I followed her and said, "I don't think we should end this conversation. I think you should sit here and let me do to you what you have been doing to me for years! It's not so enjoyable when the shoe is on the other foot is it?"
That was the last time she tried to push her beliefs on me. She probably decided that I was destined for hell and there was nothing she could do to "save" me. But I was glad that she finally got a taste of her own medicine. And isn't it remarkable how so many people like to dish it out, but they don't like to take it.
The golden rule of Judaism is, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you". We would have a much better world if more people practiced that, rather than, "Do to others what you would not want done to you". If you don't want people trying to convert you to their religion, then don't try to convert people to yours. It is one thing if someone asks you for your opinion. But pushing your beliefs is an act of aggresson. As my mother always says, "Live and let live".

I think this is the song where Fats Waller says that:
I can't watch it right now, but I think he says it at the end of this song.
No one said anything about haters. But one thing I have noticed is that many Jews are willing, and even find it enjoyable, to debate about religion. Whereas many Christians are unwilling, or feel uncomfortable, when Christianity is challenged. They have no trouble telling you why what you believe is wrong, and why you should believe what they believe. But when you turn it around and challenge their beliefs they have no interest in that. Some get angry. Others just end the conversation. To be totally honest, I have never in my life met a Christian who is willing to have a long term debate about the validity of Christianity. This is one of the things that makes me tend to think that it is a religion that stifles free thought. Then again many Jews also do not like to debate about religion. But I am generalizing from what I have seen in my own experience. And possibly that's what we have seen here.
Then again, as Frank Zappa said, "I may be totally wrong." People just come and go, and perhaps the two Christian folks who were posting a lot until we started questioning Christianity just got busy. As another great musician once said, "One never knows, do one?"
yes thats it
theres a 94% correlation between music lovers and jew haters.
Maybe I'm paranoid but I wonder if all this Jewish talk chased away our friends who were posting pretty regularly for a while.
the whole town of murcia went free wifi on saturday and now we all get broadband free everuwhere,,in out house. we call each other on cell fons using messenger talk so all calls free like walki talki.

| Cool Winds of Spring
Today I played for a wedding out in Long Island on the water at a place called Water's Edge. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were playing out on a large deck with a view of the Sound. Suddenly the wind started blowing cold air off the water and it became like a cold windy fall day. I was wearing a tuxedo, yet I was freezing and having a hard time playing. Then I noticed that several young women were wearing sleeveless dresses. Some were mini dresses. And yet none of them were complaining or showing any signs of being cold! Isn't it amazing how strong women can be when wanting to look good! (Yet if you were alone in a room with them they would probably be asking you to turn on the heat.)
What does this have to do with Judaism you ask?
On the way home I was talking to one of the musicians and I brought up how the minister quoted Jesus when he said you should "love your enemy". I told her how that sounds very nice but is not followed by almost anyone. I pointed out how some enemies are deadly and that really loving them could lead to getting killed by them. Not that you should hate anyone, and not that you should not hope for their repentance, but to actually love someone who wants to kill you and destroy your way of life is almost impossible to do. I even pointed out how in the New Testament when Jesus asked a fig tree to produce food and it didn't he cursed it. I said, "That's not loving your enemy. He should have said, 'That's okay tree, I love you anyway', but instead he cursed it!" So she said, "That's because he was a JEW!"

| Tragedy, Misery, and Woe!
Can you believe the terrible natural disaters that have befallen the world this past week of so? Over 100,000 dead in Myamar, and over 10,000 in China! Earthquakes, cyclones... what's next? My heart goes out to all who are suffering on account of these tragic events.
What kind of world do we live in? We are told to be kind to each other, to help each other, not to hurt each other. And yet our planet suddenly kills tens of thousands of us in an instant without a moment of grief or regret. What are we to make of this? How should it, or should it at all, effect our view of morality? Are there any messages hidden in these type of mass murdering acts of nature?
| Over Hill, over dale...
It is interesting how the different songs and melodies of the armed forces reflect the spirit of each group.
The army sings, "Over hill, over dale, we will hit the dusty trail..." And indeed, that is what the army does. They hike, they hit the trail. And the melody goes up and down like a mountain trail.
The Marines have a proud anthem, "From the halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli, we will fight our country's battles on the land and on the sea."
The Navy has a song that sounds like an old sea chanty, "Anchor away my boys, anchors away!" The music has that big ship on the waves feel.
The air force goes skyward with, "Off we go into the wide blue yonder. Flying high into the sky." The melody also goes climbing up note by note into the sky.
Most Americans know these songs. But how many people have ever stopped and thought about who wrote them? Did they have a contest? Did they hire a tin pan alley composer, or were they written by men in the force? Who decided that this song would be it? Did they try them out with soldiers, or was it a general who decided? Or was it the commander of the band? Interesting topic, isn't it?
| Red, White and Blue
Yesterday I played cello in a concert band. I was a "ringer" playing with a high school band with around 60 wind players, 5 percussionists, and cello! I played the bassoon part. It was interesting as I rarely deal with concert band repertoire. They did the typical marches and modern classical type pieces with odd meters and various tone colors. But for the finale they did a medley of American patriotic tunes including the Star Spangled Banner, Over There, Three Cheers for the Red, White and Blue (I forget the actual name of that one), and others. We were joined by a chorus which sang some of the tunes and did a pledge of allegience during a part where we played in hushed tones behind them. Toward the end the school ROTC program supplied some young potential soldiers in full dress, rifles included, to do a little flag waving.
Though many people might shy away from such an overt show of patriotism, it was actually quite moving and stirring. To me you can support your country even if you disagree with many things being done by the government. And in that spirit, I was doing the do for the red, white and blue!
