Skeptic vs. Scoffer
What is the difference between a scoffer and a skeptic?

The skeptic has a healthy mistrust of information. He wants the ability to question it, to see if it holds up to scrutiny. He is skeptical, but if something is shown to be reasonable, the skeptic would agree.

The scoffer has no interest in finding the truth. He merely wants to make fun of something whether or not he actually understands it.

The skeptic seeks new information so that he can finally make a reasoned judgement. The scoffer is hostile to new information because he does not want to learn, or think, or change his opinion. His enjoyment is in tearing down, insulting, making fun. His underlying motive is negative.

Each one of us has to determine if we will be the believer, the skeptic, or the scoffer.
