The Grateful Trio
Tonight the Grateful Trio will be performing again at the Indian Road Cafe in Inwood in northern Manhattan. We do mostly Dead tunes but some others like Neil Young and Neil Goldstein.

The lead singer (who also plays guitar) is a real Dead Head. He is really into the meaning of the lyrics and sees the Dead as almost a religion. I suppose it can be seen as a type of new age secular religion. But it is not really a religion.

It is very hard to create a religion. Jim Jones tried and ended up killing himself and all his followers. Way to go Jim!

It's pretty impressive when you look at the following that Joseph Smith still has after over 100 years. The Mormons are a large and growing group and this year they had a strong presidential contender, Mitt Romney. Other more recent groups seem to be hanging on like the Pentacostals, the Seventh Day Adventists, and the Jehovah Witnesses.

The Seventh Day Adventists have the least catchy name. One guy says, I'm a Jew. The next says, I'm a Catholic. The next says, I'm a Seventh Day Adventist. It does not roll off the tongue. But it could be worse. How about, I'm a Seventh Day Sixth Month Third Hour Adventist Pentacostal Witness. Now that's a name!
